I think the reaction is based on the whole hubbub and extra crap that happens at the convention, not because of GamerGate specifically.

I—no joke—had this game’s creator as my Game Design teacher. He was a cool dude, and a fun teacher. At least he’s trying to make games that are dealing in gay people’s experience, and I suspect the odd presentation is part of the point. I also suspect he’s taking the piss, just a little.

I agree. There's a bunch of great fanfiction out there—heck, just read the fanfic recs in TV Tropes.

I've read some really good fanfiction, some absolutely beautiful erotic fanfiction, and I post competent fanfiction myself. The barrier of entry is lower, so there's more crap around, but there's no need to despair. The best fanficcers hold themselves to the same standards as "actual" writers.

Now I know "as all get out" is an actual phrase and not something I made up.
