Exactly! It’s a trigger parade. For me it was a mix of validating/invalidating, because some of the trauma stories were SO intense that I was like ‘wait, have i actually experienced trauma? do i know what pain is?’

Just commenting to say—my therapist ‘assigned’ that book to me and didn’t warn me and it gave me nightmares for ages. It’s a good book and I’m glad I’ve read it, but it’s nice that you put that warning. It almost seemed like the author was going for shock value at some points?
