There is nothing the 928 V8 does better anyway, besides pay for your mechanic’s kid’s college tuition. I am more than OK with this. Replacing a flat 6 would have been blasphemy.

Its a 928. Nobody cares if such things are done to a 928 as its either this, or it becomes a cooking wok or brake rotors for Auto Zone. This shit isn’t even shocking to see on a 911. 928 purists, they are a small handful of loons. Don’t get me wrong, an end of run GTS is cool, but if its ready for the scraper, I won’t

First, it takes the questionable reliability of early ‘80s Porsche electrics and expensive mechanical components out of the equation altogether and replaces them with the tune-via-screwdriver dependability of an all-American drivetrain that has been made for the better part of a century.

“retains the porsche transmission in the rear.”

I did something like that by mating the 350 from my Blazer to a Camaro transmission and shoving it into an Olds Cutlass. 4 door, grandma-blue, headers, dual 2" exhaust and big 4 barrel carb... car came stock with a posi rear for some reason too.

Find a V10 from the E60 BMW M5, it’s the only engine that’s even less reliable than the one the 928 came with.

This may need a kickstarter site.

Difficulty for difficulty’s sake is just masturbation.

Hmmm...maybe if you put two Mazda rotaries in it - I don’t think one would be enough...

928 is one of the least attractive Porsches out there, so I doubt purists would care much. Besides, a clean build is a clean build - and that’s pretty clean.

The 928's original powerplant was a pile, so something relatively easy to fix and maintain? +1 for this restomod.

What if we compromise?

I, too, would like one in Arrest-me-and-throw-my-ass-in-prison Red. Can we get a group buy going?

I love seeing blasphemous cars.

So the engine probably cost more than a so/so drivable Porsche? Probably runs like a raped ape? Makes purists cry/angry? Chevy powered so pretty much any auto parts store carries consumables at non-jaw dropping prices?

The only harm I see it the semi-calibrated leak on top of the intake manifold. Otherwise, I give my blessing.

O’ saint! The magnum opus!!! It’s ready!! Praise be!

The plus side is, he now has car reliable enough to drive on a regular basis

That sure is a pretty engine bay

Not my kind of thing, but no harm done. All but the best cars or GTS aren’t terribly valuable or rare, and plenty have been off the road for a long time, sitting in barns and backyards with no real chance of coming back. It’s out being seen again, and that’s part of the point of these.
