Gladiator shoots for the big scope of those old classics but it can't pull it off.  The action scenes in Gladiator are good but that's it.  The dialogue is dull and cliched and boring.  The dialogue in Ben Hur and even Cleopatra, in sharp contrast, is often cracking stuff.

Gladiator is 30 minutes of good stuff interspersed between two hours of dull filler.  Crash can't even manage that 30 minutes.  The Academy embarrassed itself with both films but Crash is definitely worse.

There is no more Teutonic approach to impressing girls than bursting into their dressing rooms wearing only a loincloth and offering tax advice.  Schwarzennegar has so much to teach us.

If ABC Family execs want to go down in history as the most soulful, intelligent, wealthy, and good looking entertainment titans ever, they will renew this show.

Sadly true.  The upside is it gives fans a hipster satisfaction of liking a show featuring a title that is promotionally unfriendly.

In the age of brodom I can't believe someone hasn't tried Bunbros.

The lyrics are confusing as hell.  Maybe it made sense in the original Swedish.

Skyfall was so dull that, with time and perspective, I think its esteem with the AV people will erode.  Sometimes you need that distance to appreciate just how far off your initial reaction was.

How can you tell whether their look is due to perfect skin as opposed to crack make up artists?

McKidd would be good for Randyll Tarly, i.e., Sam's competent but bitch of a dad.

**Not Really a Spoiler But This Way I am Untouchable**  Lady Dustin could be a promising part.  Kind of the cranky but sharp matriach the show writers have proven fantastic at bringing to life onscreen.  Arya mentioned her in season 2, so she may be in the pipeline.

Martin posted about this on his not a blog.  In short, he said he generally envisioned the Dornish as looking southern European — Spanish — and even endorsed the drawing of the Red Viper on the Tower of the Hand as close to what he had in mind.  See http://www.towerofthehand.c…

So Mike is Zuckerberg and Sully is a Winklevoss?

rubi — I like Prince of Egypt too, even though it has to overcome some real problems.  Val Kilmer and Ralph Fiennes make kind of dull voice actors, and the Martin Short/Steve Martin comic relief duo are in the wrong movie.  But the atmosphere, music, and basic story-telling work really well.

Seemed clear to me.  It was not mercy.  It was a Game of Thrones moment for Pete, and Pete OWNS Benson now.  Benson is now his fully subservient right hand man.

Peameal — let me put it this way.  He was still pumped about seeing Hyde Park on the Hudson even after I warned him about the terrible reviews.  The only Bill Murray that falls flat for him is the Wes Anderson stuff.  Anderson's style just rubs him the wrong way.

You know, I never thought about it before, but you're absolutely right, "hanging out watching with my dad" movies really are their own distinct category.  AV club could do a whole article on it.  I'll bet Clint Eastwood would dominate a lot of people's lists.  Mine would include For a Few Dollars More, Jeremiah

I think I know what you mean, but I'd also offer that Craig just fits the kind of Bond they've gone for in the reboot better than Owen. Craig projects a physicality that Owen does not, and they've emphasized that physicality since Casino Royale.  New Bond is a hammer that smashes the bad guys more than a smooth

For me it was the BMW short films from the early aughts.  He was relatively unknown at the time but radiated star power.  He was also helped out by some first rate directors: BMW ponied up for Ang Lee, Wong Kar Wai, and Guy Ritchie (among others) to make some really kick ass shorts.  They're still maybe the best car

Wait, is this a joke?  You posted several times in the Rains of Castamere threads.  What on earth are you doing reading those and spoiling away the season if you're only on episode 3?
