I think the movie takes place in an alternate present that's why the calendar said 1987 and why a lot of things aren't futuristic (tvs, cars, e.t.c)

A Zelda game came out and so did 2 Mario games and that didn't do anything. And it took the 3DS 13 months to become succesful, the Wiiu has been out for 14 months and has more games than the 3ds did at the time that's simple math.

Why don't they do what Rockstar did with GTA5, they made a casual game on smartphones and tablets to promote there big game on consoles.
