As a BRZ driver, I can tell you that you are grossly exaggerating how much work it takes to pass a “normally accelerating” vehicle.

Short answer from a guy that grew up driving cars from the early 80s. Any car today has more power than it needs to get in front of a bus. A BRZ is able to run the quarter in the high 14s, low 15s. Basically, about the same as a mid-80s Iroc Z-28, which was the baddest car on the street in the mid-80s.
