I have a feeling the only people who get this feature are from Detroit and actually want it, or are an FCA executive and it comes with their company car.

Jeep: You don’t even know how much it cost to design and manufacture this thing. And you don’t know how much people are willing to pay for it.
Couple of notes...
Neat. I don’t want that feature.
There’s just a bit of bias in this story, although the point is valid. There is nothing unjust in one homeowner having the ability to put in a storm barrier and another not. That barrier is cool tech, and should be a story on its own here. Particularly since it does less damage than sandbags, is reusable, easy to move…
Those with more money will always be better positioned to protect what they have. Nowhere is this more apparent than with health care. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that protecting their property from natural disasters is any different.
How does this situation have anything to do with injustice. Justice is a purely human conception. There is no such thing in the natural world. A hurricane does not discriminate between wealthy or poor people.

If she has a garage and a toolbox and a project car, she’s a keeper.

Eh, cars got bigger. My landlord’s car only fits in the garage if we pull the door out as it comes down - and the car’s an 90s sedan. If the house is from the 40s or earlier, don’t expect the garage to fit anything modern.
Counterpoint - if you have a small garage and your other hobbies include lots of DIY and outdoorsy stuff, you turn it into a workshop and the car sits outside. The trick is keeping it organized and uncluttered. To me, a nice garage workshop > empty box to keep snow off your Kia.
This is the thing I never got with a lot of friends... Their garage is literally FULL of shit and boxes and they park their cars outside...
No room in the garage for a vehicle.
The problem with being a “for profit” company is that you actually have to have a business plan that makes money over time. Probably not a great idea banking on self driving cars coming way earlier than possible.
And are not even close to profitable
California passed legislation that would require compliance or force Lyft out of the market. California got their way. What’s the problem? If Lyft was unethical they are gone. I prefer actual Taxi cabs. They are regulated professional drivers.
