Uh, I don’t think anything above living paycheck to paycheck should be classified as “paid well enough”. People need to save money in order to retire (especially with physical labor where your body won’t last into your 60s).

They’re still attempting to do that about once every week or two. But it generally results in arrests. They have however blocked all the entrances at the technical center that aren’t at traffic lights. While at the entrances at traffic lights, they walk in the crosswalk while they’re allowed to without impeding

Bringing attention to the cause and generally making it more difficult for the company to conduct business. They block entrances to try and prevent those who are still working from trying to get to work.

I don’t mean to be a Debby downer, but you do have a choice of who employs you. If you can’t find another job with similar wages and better vacation, you may either have to take a cut in pay to get that two weeks somewhere else, or accept the better wages are a trade off to the limited vacation.

Neutral: “Good” is objectively anything better than the average wage and benefits of a similarly skilled job.

3rd Gear: You can hate on Tesla all you want, but I sincerely hope their China factory gives them a real boost in revenue. I think a world with Tesla is better than one without it, regardless of what you think of Elon, the stock price, or any of the other drama that comes with it.

Well, let’s call it “all the people with office jobs at GM who aren’t represented by the UAW” i.e. Engineers, accountants, business people, marketing people, secretaries, assistants, etc.

GM has been making about a 10% profit over its expenses in recent years, which is about as good as it gets in the auto industry. (Apple makes a~65% profit on their iPhone, for reference). This is quite a low number compared to a lot of industries, and a good reason why not a lot of new companies break into this space.

I mean supply and demand dictates that if they can’t leave their factory job with their skill and education and find a job with equal pay and benefits, the value of their labor is either at its upper limit or over valued.

I guess it depends on pricing to say whether or not this is “worth it”. But those numbers don’t look that promising especially compared to the upcoming Model Y.... or even a Hyundai Kona.... or Bolt....

I think he may be referring to the people laid off at suppliers or other business that do work with GM that lost out on profits. Those employees either took a hit or lost their jobs and see no real benefits. All the white collar men and women at GM are also getting a bonus cut this year without any benefits from the

Meanwhile, due to the strike, the white collar guys get a cut to their bonuses for continuing to work.

I also don’t think people realize that the majority of us in this position are also just middle class people working our way toward retirement with bills and children and responsibilities as well. We’re not the fat cats on top, directors, or even managers. Just regular men and women working their way through life.

Yeah, They’re receiving that amount of money back. But let’s say they were going to make $5000 back in bonuses on a similar contract as they had without the strike, and now they’re making $6000 in bonuses. They’re still down $5000 from what they would have made continuing to work.

It’s not super clear, but I think he’s referring to what the workers forwent during the strike. Not what they left off the table in negotiations.

1st Gear: THANK. GOD.

Sell hybrid and PHEV SUV’s and I’m sure people will buy them.

You act like those employees aren’t middle class which is defined as making between $40,500 and $122,000. Most of those employees definitely fall within that range and are being impacted by the strike.

My first thought was “Wow for that money they should do something crazy, like make it widebody” When I suddenly read that it was a widebody. Scrolled back up to the picture... “Yeah... I guess it is wide body”

The 2011 Montreal race with Jenson Button coming from last place to pass Vettel on the last lap and win was a pretty legit race.
