@Augure: I am pretty sure a great deal of people stare at "retro" led screens at work on monitor, or at home on tv's, I work directly in front of a computer all day at work, and I have zero eye problems/eye strain. I do not have any previous eye problems, so staring at a back lit screen could prove more problematic

Most people with zero hands on experience knock it in the reading department, but I own one, and use it very often to read, and I can attest to it being quite wonderful to read on. @Augure: I read all the time on my iPad I have no eye tiring/strain, and it is quite enjoyable. It is also very nice to be able to view things in color, pdfs, access multiple other things as well as a very decent reading experience.
