Uh.....so you’re telling me that if all the Nader voters had a chance to rank their options in 2000 they wouldn’t have put Gore over the threshold?
For congress it would need to be Single Transferable Vote but still, these ranking systems provide FAR better outcomes and do not require massive constitutional…
Well.....no. By casting a write in for Bernie in the General I would have essentially not cast a vote at all as he won’t be qualified to run on ballots. By casting for Johnson I am casting a vote for Johnson. This can help him and the Libertarian Party with ballot access in the next election, as well as help them…
Did you mean Caps Lock when you said big words? Cause that’s all I’m seeing. Let me use actual big words so you can google them.
I see your point here, and I’m not going to argue against the latter part with “mathematically eliminated” as it is true.
By Similar views on the nature of the US system I mean campaign finance reform, removing the revolving door, ending citizens united and the legalized corruption that has become rampant in the system.…
I get you’re point here and I think we’re arguing for two separate things here. Whats right based on the means vs. whats right based on the end. I agree that if Nader had not been in the race Gore would have won Florida.
I am, however, making the argument that “Nader voters obviously preferred Gore over Bush, but that…
Did I mention anything about Nevada?
You realize names written in that are not qualified candidates are not counted towards the totals (ie - voting for Bernie or Cruz is not “taking away votes from one or the other, its the same as not casing a ballot for president.)
And no I am not sabotaging anything. I will most likely cast my vote for Gary Johnson,…
While around 2.8 million votes were cast in the NY Primary, 3 Million registered voters - whose taxes paid for that primary contest - were not allowed to participate due closed election laws.
Just one example and while I agree its not stealing an election, don’t act like its not on some level wrong
Uh.....Senator Sanders had a delegate (and vote total) lead over Secretary Clinton after the New Hampshire primary....so you’re wrong
I’m saying that, both online and out in the world, my cup runneth over with very privileged people throwing goddamn temper tantrums that their preferred candidate is not going to be the nominee until all 50 states have had a chance to cast votes. FTFY.
Sure, but you are judging the situation based on the outcome. If we would finally adopt ranked choice voting in this country it wouldn’t be an issue. Unfortunately that would dilute the power of the 2 current main political parties......which is why we have not done that.
So really, I’m blaming the Democrats for their…
Should I ask him what the internet is? How about ISIS? iPhones? email? CDs? Laptops? Hydraulic Fracking? Why Leman Brothers is important? Whats going on in Iraq? Why I’m saying Russia instead of Soviet Union? OPEC?
Jesus, you really did wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.
Calm down gramps, you won, stop rubbing it in or we’ll send you to a nursing home
You should be. There don’t have to enough stupid people in the country, there need be enough stupid / angry people in like 3-5 states. you know, what the founders intended.
I agree with that actually (gut feeling as there are no polls, facts, or alternate universes to support / test) but in the same way that he rose from nothing to his current level in the primary, introducing himself to a general election audience would counter that to an extant.
Alas, we will never know
There were more registered voters in the NY primary unable to cast a vote due to closed primary rules than there were that actually voted in the primary.
But yes, it is better not to let a plurality of the electorate have a say in who the party nominates, its not like these people can vote in the general election....
Nah.
While Bernie can’t win, and I understand your logic here Drew......I live in California and I have not had a chance to cast a vote yet. The whole primary process if fucked (not going to get into it) but if the goal is to select delegates to attend a national convention I would like to have a say in that.
