Closed primaries are in my personal opinion unconstitutional - using public funds for a private organizations nominating contest where a portion of the electorate is not allowed to participate smacks of a violation of the equal protection clause, as well as a poll tax.

Sure, but that 20% is the idea that a small number of people with large pocketbooks should not have a say over the remaining 80%.

The remaining 80% will change if those donors want it to (not saying with Secretary Clinton specifically - the President is far to public of a face - but with those “downticket candidates”
