I don't know if I'm being cynical or not, but it's the only thing that makes sense to me. Otherwise, it's the defense's case that would have been in need of sanitizing, not the prosecution's.

This is actually kind of a disturbing statement to me. It seems he's alluding to the possibility that the jury wasn't made aware that she's sexually active or rumored to be. As a matter of fact, I'll bet that's exactly what he's saying.
Pretty much. The only reason why they don't display this attitude publicly is because they believe it's considered "naughty" (political correctness) or because being possibly wrong is excusable as long as you aren't the only one (herd mentality), not because it's illogical and incorrect.
I've always felt that belief in one was a kind of conditioning for believing in the other. Both promise reward for belief and punishment for doubt.
And of course, among the traditions that are most ardently defended are those surrounding child-rearing. You should've seen the flame-wars when they put up an article on spanking.
I think that a holiday tradition encouraging people to lie to their kids is worthy of some analysis.
I like the Santa Claus lie for a couple of reasons: If a child finds out that Santa isn't real, maybe the child's eyes will be opened to the possibility that Santa isn't the only fiction that people are told to believe in. Also, it's good to know that even mom and dad will lie to you, even though there seems to be…
When you are checking a person out, it's about you not that person. So just don't stare and be obvious about it. Don't make it about them if you don't know if they would welcome that kind of attention from you. Duh. Nothing wrong with looking at people's bodies. Nothing wrong with desire. Just remember, this is…
I get it. Because the "technological industrial world" gave him the knowledge necessary to critique it, he should be grateful by ignoring this knowledge and covering for it instead. Otherwise, he'd be disloyal? You're logic (which I assume you derived from "growing up in a technological industrial world" yourself)…
lol?
First of all, you're setting up straw men. Also your statement: "1500 species of animal display some form of homosexuality, they are not making some concerted choice in their lifestyle." Most certainly different individuals of these respective species tend to display more or less homosexual or heterosexual…
Accidental death carnivory should definitely get a pass imo.
I love living in a country where people are trying so hard to live here. It has to be better than living in one where they are fleeing. Xenophobes will be xenophobes, I guess, but I'm glad foreigners want to come here, that they compete to come here. It seems that's been happening for a while. They just keep…
The way their propaganda machine spins, any law with the letters U.N. attached to it simply has to be downvoted by Republicans. Their constituents would freak out. They've got them whipped into a frenzy, feeding into that NWO conspiracy paranoia. No signs of things slowing down either.
Asshole: also not a thing (according to the DSM-V). lol. Cause =/= excuse. Of course it's up to the individual whether or not to hate people for being "assholes". Psychologists, psychiatrists, neurologists, etc. actually have to find reasons for behavior.
"Hate to spoil the party here..." Classic.
Exactly. I can't believe how often this is conflated.
Those are most of the stories in the Library, the ones that never happened. You didn't know?
And somewhere, deep in the stacks of the Dreaming library lies a book containing future, yet unwritten Hostess pastry recipes. Perhaps in another universe, those recipes are being utilized by a Hostess company that never closed shop, but in our world we are left with naught but dreams of what cakes there might have…
I disagree. I don't think that "charity" should be unequivocally praised regardless of motive. I don't blindly support every supposedly charitable cause out there. Charity should be scrutinized, because of the potential for abuse. You say that my statement is a false choice (I assume), but I say that it is true by…
