Lol. The new mutant model of gestation.

Willful ignorance, explained. Bravo!

A slap to the face can cause brain trauma, especially in a child.

If you read the original study, they specifically differentiate between spanking and child abuse. This is only about those who were spanked, not abused.

Then what is it intended to do, pray tell? Is it supposed to feel like a pleasant massage instead? That word you keep using (pain). I don't think it means what you think it means.

You're post is rife with illogic. The original study clearly states that they explicitly focused on the people who were only "spanked". They purposely avoided those who had experienced what most people here (I hope) would agree is heavy abuse. Also, your concept of a sociopath is ridiculously off base. Sociopaths

I hope you reach some fence-sitters with these posts. You've definitely contributed a lot to these comments. Frankly, I was floored to find this many corporal punishment advocates on Jezebel of all places! And not a one of them has a single shred of evidence in their favor except anecdotes. Just goes to show that

Thanks for putting this up, but from the looks of these comments, these spanking apologists aren't going to be easily swayed by even a mountain of studies.

Conservatives (and most parents, really) would have the biggest hissy fit if publicly funded parenting classes were even suggested. The govt. wants to tell you how to raise your kids! How dare they?!

I think to spank a child out of love is even more of a twisted mindfuck than out of anger.

You just articulated one of the main reasons people defend spanking, because they are defending their beloved parents. You're joking reference to "fightin' words" is also telling.

What's more, many studies show that exposure to violence at key times during a child's development normalizes violence for them. This explains why so many people who were "spanked" as children are okay with it as adults.

For those of you falling over yourselves to euphemize spanking as being TOtally not the same as beating or abuse, hitting is violence, no matter how you try to ritualize it. Call it what it is, then go ahead and defend it. "Spanking" is a euphemism for violent hitting, period.

Nomenclature is not trivial.

I know! That was one of the best lines they gave Winston in the whole movie! Don't take it from him.

This is why "The Road" is one of my favorite post-apocalyptic stories. It doesn't hold back from showing that living in such a reality would be a far cry from the fantasies Hollywood usually offers up. The main motivation of the characters: to survive in hopes of maintaining the "fire" of civilization (even though

Thank you. People have been biting faces for as long as there have been people.

The face is at eye and mouth level. Biting the face is an impulse attack, not usually premeditated.

Forgot the third option: Biting attacks happen and have always happened. We're just paying more attention to them now because of the "Zombie Apocalypse" meme. (Oops this isn't a reply to you. I meant it to be a new comment.)

Yeah. I think the study I read about made the claim that these women are also more likely to want to be around men who are more genetically similar, supposedly because pregnancy makes people want to be near trusted family. So, either Jez or Men's health got it backwards, which isn't surprising. Either way,
