I can confirm. I commented on this with my girlfriend on the way home from the movie. There was really only one scene with the trademark gratuitous shots, which was the beginning race scene in Havana. Especially the "drop the flag to start the race" lady, as one would expect.
I like that they pointed out how much Tyreese's car sucks for driving on a frozen lake. Dom's car being harpooned 5 times and still out-muscling everyone was great and stupid.
Well, she does shoot a lady in cold blood while she (Theron) is holding a baby.
I still enjoyed the hell out of it. Statham is gold.
They even gave him the Paul Walker Memorial Blue Car, only to be the first of the crew to crash into some scaffolding.
"The thing about street fights … the street always wins."
She fights some anonymous Russian henchman and shoots and kills a few guys. No lady fights, as far as I can remember.
The Rock to Tyreese, in a great line: "Why are you always yelling?!"
What got me is that she was able to remotely close and lock bulkhead doors on a Russian submarine, trapping one of the characters. I can go with the hacked cars, but c'mon.
I wouldn't say that it's off the rails at all. I enjoyed this one a lot. Statham had more to do and brought in some energy. All of his scenes were pretty great.

"Scrumptious."
Mine was a terrible Chris Rock movie called Head of State, where he becomes president or something. I remember getting halfway through it and thinking, "What the hell am I doing here? This movie was not made for 19 year olds."
I was yelling at my TV last night, "Oleg, don't do anything stupid! Oleg!"
I really, really want to see Arkady again. He reminds me of one of my favorite characters from The Sopranos, Johnny Sack. Always cool, calm, and collected. Always knows how to play the game and all of the angles. "I take a sad song and make it better."
The allure of sets is real. I never used them with my mage character the first time around with the game, but I'm really seeing the benefits of the sets now that I'm pushing into Torment 8 and I need to dish out more damage. Finding a good set and matching that with the right skills is just so satisfying. I got pretty…
