I’m not a big anti-PEDs guy, to be honest. I don’t care much whether a fighter is using. I remain unconvinced that it makes someone a better fighter.

Thanks a million for this, Pete. Sorry I got this one wrong. It happens.
As I told PBC’s people who talked to me about what I wrote, I’m not anybody in this business. There are many much, much bigger players to worry about than to be concerned if I write something negative.
Thanks for taking the time for this comment, man. I really appreciate it. My negative take on Wilder wasn’t personal, by the way. I just don’t think he’s much of a fighter. But he showed me some things I didn’t expect last Saturday, and I’ll give him that much.
This comment means a great deal to me, Erick. Thanks much for it. I’m about to watch Saturday’s fight for the first time since seeing it live. I want to do that before coming to any final conclusions about it.
It did change my opinion of Wilder to a degree. I will now concede that there is genuine power in his right hand. And the guy has tons of heart.
Thanks. I bring what I know to the pieces. It’s an imperfect library, and I make mistakes. I appreciate when people look at the bigger picture.
Junot Diaz is terrific.
That’s a very generous reading of me and my writing, Franky. Thanks. I don’t feel like much of a prophet today.
That is very, very flattering. And awfully kind. Thanks.
Seated very near ringside, I have no doubt that the fight was real. I guessed wrong.
I guessed wrong about the fight being fixed. That will happen. But you see how close Wilder got to being stopped, which would have spoiled everything. And, as you point out, the judges seemed to be giving him an awful lot of affection. Everyone in the press row had Ortiz ahead.
Clearly, this was a time when I was wrong. But you really do need to follow the way the business gets run and where the money goes. Anyone can see how close things came last night for Wilder’s whole thing to fall apart.
It’ makes feel great to hear this, man. Thank you.
If you stick with me when I get one of the pieces very wrong (as I did with this one, it turns out), I really owe you one.
Thanks for the very kind words. And I understand that there’s plenty of room for disagreement. I appreciate that too.
Thanks for reading the piece, even if you think I’m wrong about Ortiz.
You may well be right about the timeline.
Exactly.
Not prearranged at all. Joshua will simply destroy Wilder legit.
