A lot of it is just the class of car. You buy a large luxury sedan because it has the latest features and looks like money. After 5 years, it no longer has the latest features and looks like the old model (no longer money).

They depreciate like this because there is little value in the used car market for someone to buy one of these without a warranty.  I had a friend ask me about Audi, as I drove an A6 just previous to his question.  I told him to go to cars.com or some other car sales website and do a search for high end European cars

So, exactly why are you here at Jalopnik?

I despise Elon Musk and all he touches, but this isn’t really a ding against Tesla, IMO. So long as you are extracting value from what you have purchased, depreciation is a purely academic concern. If you pay price X for a car, and own it for years Y, is the value of X divided by Y an acceptable rate to pay for having

I know a lot of people write off deprecation as a big, “who cares.”

Ok, so....In order to artificially keep the prices of cars (and used cars) up, this is exactly why traditional manufacturers never lower the MSRP of their cars. They heap incentives like low interest rates and cash back instead.

Came here to say this very thing. At some point, the sheer ferocity of “these fuckers are stealing my shit and my next paycheck” emotions are going to erupt in a hail of fists, if not bullets. I’m shocked no one from A-1 has got laid out or is pushing up daisies because of this rogue bullshit.

I’m surprised no one has gotten shot over this yet.

I believe the reference is to repair work.

^^^This guy gets it. He only left out insurance costs for EVs. Manufacturers kill off cheap cars, only ship EVs with 100s of miles of range, high base prices and bonkers horsepower and dealers are allowed to add their own arbitrary markups without any guardrails whatsoever. Now that we’ve reached the bullshit

Since when do EVs have insane maintenance costs? I just got the 20k service done on my Polestar and you know what they did? Replace the wiper blades and filled the washer fluid. It cost $0.

I don’t think Toyota can lecture me on EVs until they actually make a Prime for actual sale.

Shocking that people aren’t wild about $60k (at 7% interest!) cars with limited, often-broken charging infrastructure and insane repair and maintenance costs.

Every angle is stupid looking.

Agreed. It doesn’t even look like a “truck,” but more like a RAV4 someone put a body kit on. It has no ground clearance...

Maverick and Miata.

Boy are we going to be friends ! I literally am waiting for a good trade-in value on my CBR, so I can buy a Thruxton RS. My brother’s first bike was a Trident 660, which enjoyed for a good year and learned on (he had dirt experience with bikes), then traded for a Speed Triple 1200 RR. We are both big Triumph fans, and

Satisfy the needs of car A and B.

Grill needs to be taller. Seems like the driver might still be able to see someone standing within 10 feet in front of truck.
