You are on point about nerd culture in the past. Long before it was mainstream nobody cared. With how mainstream it has become, a lot of the things we were escaping bled in. Some are just sheer ignorance though, and not actual hate.

Definitely, when I was watching it, I was trying to imagine it as if I never read the Infinity Gauntlet. It was even better.
