I never cared for "O Holy Night" until I heard Sufjan Stevens' version. It's a beautiful cover, but what really got me was his use of the abolitionist version of the lyrics, which were brand new to me. It somehow roots the song very clearly in a specific time yet makes it feel more relevant than all the bombastically
