The Rift is still designed with the normal human field of view in mind. You'd need some sort of direct neural input to access the visual cortex. I've got some ideas about it, but I need somebody who's willing to let me hack something together on their nervous system. Off to Craigslist...

I agree with that, but what is misleading is just that it is a paid promotion that is presented as though it's any other part of the show. It would be like if the "sponsored" posts on this site weren't labeled as such.

I think the point is that it's not free publicity - it cost $35,000. But, it's presented as just another part of the show rather than a promotional/advertising segment. It's arguably deceptive in a similar way to things like fake gaming blogs that were revealed to be Sony promotions a few years back.

I took a close look at that. It is realtime lighting, but I think the thing that looks weird is that it appears to be coming from the player's eyes, rather than from a handheld flashlight that would be somewhat down and to the side, casting light at more of an angle. Maybe the flashlight is mounted on a helmet? Or
