WHAT? A cop made you get outside your car just to tell him why you have a protective order? How is that his business? What the hell does that have to do with your driving or anything else? What a shitty abuse of power. >:(

Thank you. I'm so tired of people blaming this judge. She did the only thing she could do.

Would you wear a cape?

It's not just that city. Power corrupts, plain and simple.

As someone who works as an atty for abused women and kids (and occasionally men)....DVOs often are a very bad idea because they can trigger men like this too kill. A man with this mindset views it as an insult/ultimatum/etc. They almost never stop a man like this one.

Every city is corrupt on this issue. I can't think of a single major city that prioritizes protecting women over protecting their abusers.

Seriously, you slack-jawed piece of shit? We're gonna blame this on police corruption in one city as if yours is immune to misogyny and violence against women?

After I had an order of protection in place, my abuser walked down the street of my apartment. (Abuser was an ex-friend who wanted to have a relationship with me and I had a boyfriend/didn't want a relationship with him and told him this. Many times. He did not respond well.)

What an interesting way to put Obama and Kenya into the same sentence. Let me guess. You watch Fox News.

Perhaps you should look at your comment again. You made a point of singling out Chicago. TWICE.

I'm a native Chicagoan as well, with CPD relatives. I'm pretty sick of "Chicago is just THE WORST" shit too. New Orleans is pretty fucking corrupt as well.

a friend of mine was once beat up by her boyfriend (now ex) and the first thing we did in the morning (it happened at like 1am) was go to the police station to file a report and then went to the courthouse to petition for an order of protection/restraining order. when we did get a courtdate she stood there, her lip

I am a native Chicagoan. I very much dislike the joke of "Chicago is a crime haven."And I especially dislike the implication that any of this shit would have happened differently any where else.

This could have happened in any city in the country. This has little to do with Chicago police apathy towards DV and much more to do with GENERAL police apathy toward DV.

In defense of Chicago/Illinois, Jon Burge, George Ryan, Rod Blagojevao;sdflksdfkas;f are all in or went to prison.

It was such an ordeal to get my protective order. I had to sit on the stand with my abuser 10 feet away while his very well-paid lawyer cross-examined me in front of a full court room. I was the one that was on trial even though his charge was a FELONY. I'm convinced that the laws and their implementation are

Right, because something like this would only happen in Chicago.

I just read this story this week, and it's horrifying. I don't understand why they couldn't get some justice with videos that supported their story and so much media attention. Right now I have no faith in our "justice" system.

My sons father stalked me and harassed me and I was so scared. And I did not get a restraining order because I was afraid that it would trigger more rage and he would kill me.

Yaassss!! They can wear said capes while sitting in a row in the courtroom knitting menacingly. I want to grow up to be a knitting feminist! (I am already 40)
