OMG LEGOLAND??? Why can't I live in the U.S.? Except I'd need to borrow a kid, apparently. But still, LEGOS FOR MEEEE.

These scenarios have occurred. A woman in Texas was kept on life support against her wishes and those of her family solely to incubate her child after a stroke which had left her brain dead and the fetus compromised. That went down early this year.
This article makes me feel violent.
We are all really clumps of cells (much of it bacteria). A women, however, is already an independent life, the fetus is not.
People whose bodies are not involved should not be making these kinds of decisions. Period.
You just can't stand that there's this one area men aren't in complete control of can you?
This. Even if we do consider a fetus a person, does that mean that the fetus' rights override the rights of the woman it resides in? Is the right to life more important than the right to bodily autonomy? If so, could the government force a person to donate blood, bone marrow, or organs to dying people?
How about we make the line for a fetus the same as the line for an already-born, but minor child? As in, if my child is on life-support and has no chance of survival, I can decide when life support ends.
In your expert opinion, which is higher, 90% chance of survival or 100% chance of survival?
No. Child support isn't meant to be a punishment to men or a benefit to women. It's there to make sure both parents are providing financially for the child. Once the kid is born, he or she has to fed, housed and clothed and given medical care. That takes money. If the parents aren't doing it, the government has…
I hope they sued that hospital into bankruptcy. Fuck them.
I'm sorry, but that's what it seemed like you were saying. Generally, the whole point of distinguishing between a "clump of cells" and a viable fetus is an attempt to shoehorn legal rights onto something that is still, essentially, a parasite.
in the very near future we will experience a surge in ultra conservative right wing political muscle flexing....the gop assumes that the 2014 elections give them a mandate to go as far extreme right as their imaginations will take them, and unfortunately i think they are correct in that assumption....my gut feeling is…
How cruel is it to force a fetus to endanger its mother's life and encroach on her fundamental civil rights against the mother's will without the fetus's consent? After all, God granted fetuses the sacred responsibility of total bodily dependence on their mothers. Anti-choicers aren't fetus-lovers—they are…
*sigh* I find myself not wanting to care. I say that because in TX, voter turnout is so low I don't see any change on the horizon. Until we can get enough people to "give a fuck" and vote, nothing is going to change.
The problem is that when you give rights to the fetus, you are taking those same rights away from the woman who is carrying it. Every right granted to the fetus represents a right taken away from the woman. The judgment of the pregnant woman in question is never even considered, it is automatically assumed to be…
Lets add this caveat that the medical personnel who help guide these decisions need to make sure they are basing their recommendations on facts related to medical treatments and outcomes, with morals and ethics that honor the primacy and agency of the pregnant woman. We need to be allowed to make our medical…
Man, my cooking and cleaning skills are so awful, I'm TOtally gonna end up shovelling ashes in the Colonies. No Martha-hope for this useless empty barren old spinster!
Don't worry, there are a few states in the USA who have already passed / are trying to pass those same laws— criminalizing addiction in pregnant women. Because if you won't seek treatment for your own good, threatening you with jail will really make you want to ask the system for help! *face+palm*
But the point is, personhood laws make it so if you do anything, you're a danger to the baby inside you. Thus, no violation of doctor patient confidentiality if they tell on you. Because you're a horrible, ogre-like creature who didn't protect your fetus enough.
