A 265-pound wheel fell off a United Airlines Boeing 777 after taking off from San Francisco International Airport on Thursday, smashing through a fence and into several cars in a nearby parking lot.

To give the plane less time to potentially lose more wheels while in the air. Can’t assume it’s one and done; there might be some larger issue with the strut as a whole.

I agree. It’s intentionally a PITA so that people feel safe.

I’m curious why it would have to make an emergency landing. It’s already in the air. They have added wheels for redundancy. Why not let it fly to its destination and land with less fuel and the added bonus of not screwing up all the scheduling? Is there a benefit to landing it sooner other than alleviating the anxiety?

You can maybe argue that the colors were made with American buyers in mind but the nardo grey (and similar colors) were first introduced and came to prominence under European nameplates.

On this version of Earth, recognizing that civilians being killed on a daily basis is probably not ideal doesn’t make one anti-semitic or pro-palestine.

Pretty much all so-called pro-Palestinian rallies really are conducted by people with anti-genocide leaning. It’s troubling to think that that ticks some people off.

If I did that to a cop car, every other cop would dogpile me instantly and I’d probably still be in jail.

If the goal is to have the vehicles moved from where they are, what is the purpose of slashing the tires, other than to simply be a dick?

Sounds like a textbook case of cops following their training to issue confusing commands and deploy questionable tactics.

Ah yes, the 911 famously had twin-turbos, an all-wheel drive system, ride-height adjustment, kevlar composite bodies, nomex floors, and magnesium wheels with built-in tire-pressure monitoring.

good example. It makes me think of the a$$holes that want teachers to carry guns. I have been in education for 25+ years and do not trust a lot of teachers to work a copy machine. I do not want them armed. For people to remain calm in a gunfire situation takes way more training than school taxes can pay for and I do

Everyone who buys a gun for self-defense (and every police officer) should be asked this question under oath... “When you wake up in the morning do you hope today is the day you get to use your gun, or do you fear today is the day you have to use your gun.” Only people (and potential officers) who hope to never have

? what? I’’m gonna start to ignore anything with your “by-line” after this title which is a joke, it was/is not a “Porsche 959 Limo”and you’re either ignorant or smartass comment “Every 959 is just a body kit slapped on a 911.” is reason enough to look for and then ignore anything you “write”. this is far from the

Would not be entirely surprised to find out that Musk learned that someone was spending company money on a “woke” BHM gesture and personally ordered that it be cancelled.

Why would anyone trust Elon at this point?

Why run two assembly lines and pay extra workers when you can just produce more cars faster and disable $15 worth of parts in software.

And Biden also doesn’t have cult members who would buy his used bathwater.

You know what is better than a Scirocco?, a rear wheel drive Scirocco.

Jalopnik writing staff has really fallen off over the years.
