Rogue One actually has a lot in common with the other Star Wars prequels: baffling CGI choices, groan-worthy dialogue (that choking pun!), and a whole bunch of characters we don't care about. I wouldn't say it's "much, much better" than Episodes I-III. It fits right in with them.

It is interesting how many movies skip opening credits now days. When done well (see: any David Fincher movie) they can be absolutely glorious and a highlight of the entire movie.

I've also seen this pop up with stories about MRA's boycotting Mad Max or people bitching about Starbucks holiday cups. In reality it's, like, 4 crazy people complaining on Twitter, but the media loves to run with it like it's a widespread phenomenon.

You say to get over our hopelessness, but your second paragraph sounds pretty darn hopeless. Unless I'm interpreting "a lunatic who really will get us all killed" incorrectly.

A huge thumbs up to number 4. I'm so burnt out on the half-hour dramedy genre and miss when half-hour shows actually, you know, tried to be funny. It doesn't help that I find your Atlantas and your Louies and your Transparents more boring than enlightening. And when someone says that a show like You're The Worst or

I've been showing my boyfriend this show for the first time, because somehow he's a gay man who's never seen it. It really holds up wonderfully aside from the shaky first season. The show also has deeper resonance to me now that I'm in my thirties as opposed to when I originally watched it in my twenties.

Yeah, I'm kind of shocked by this review. What a tacky thing to bring up in a documentary about a man dying from an awful disease.

We'll wallow if we want to. Thank you for your tireless efforts to make us all embrace 2016, but your efforts are not needed and you can run along to somewhere else where people actually care what you have to say. Assuming such a place exists, which is doubtful.

Not sure why you felt the need to comment to say you don't give a shit about any of these people dying, but your user name is definitely fitting.

Not at all. I loved Force Awakens and every film in the original trilogy. Star Wars as a franchise has 4 great films and 4 middling to terrible ones, which isn't the worst track record. I think the lesson here is don't set anything before A New Hope or it's bound to be awful.

I also saw the trailer before La La Land shortly after leaving this comment!

Both the movie and the book are fantastic. Nasty, yes, but certainly less so than something like Dragon Tattoo. That's the movie I can see the words nihilistic and misogynistic thrown at, though I've grown to love the movie over time.

Yeah, if you saw Affleck in that Bill Simmons interview he looks Botoxed all to hell. If he were a woman there'd be endless op-eds about how he changed his face, but since he's a man nobody cares.

I'm pretty mixed on Affleck. I think he's good in some things and seems to be sleepwalking through everything else. For example, David Fincher used his aloof douchiness to perfect effect in Gone Girl. But he really needs the right director and the right role.

It's odd that I haven't heard a single peep about this movie until now. No commercials, no trailers, no "from the director of Argo" awards buzz. I figured it was coming out sometime next year until reviews started popping up. Is Warner Bros just pushing this out to die or is it more of platform release?

I definitely don't think the boycott is having a negative impact on Rogue One. It's more that the movie just isn't very good.

That's kind of the point of both the book and the movie. Nature is unforgiving.

I did not like this finale, but overall I enjoyed the journey this show took me on. It's just a shame The AV Club only reviewed the worst episode of the series.

Nice, it is on Amazon Prime. Must have just been added so I'll check it out.

I didn't like the pilot for The Expanse, but I've been wanting to go back and give it another shot. Unfortunately, Syfy isn't great about getting their shows on streaming services in a timely fashion. It's almost like they don't want a ratings boost!
