Sure but Indians are even more into food than Russians, or at least the same amount. Indians are mad about food.

Family of 5. About 15% for us. 6.1% would be impossible while consuming fruits and vegetables. I already cook everything from scratch to save, buying dried beans, making our own yogurt, etc.
I'm at about 20-25%. Considering that one fifth of the country suffers from food insecurity/hunger, I'd guess that income inequality is wildly throwing US numbers off. Also wondering if food stamps/soup kitchens/food pantries are counted as income. I'd like to see the math because it doesn't really make sense to me.…
I looked at the USDA information linked from the Vox article, and nothing is explained regarding how they are statistically measuring overall expenditures. It just mentions census data and the calculations used in non-census years.
This has been covered. Endlessly. The vast majority are accidents that can happen to any tired parent, including a NASA scientist. Go look up the WaPo article.
That's a good system. Another option is to take off one of your shoes when you put the kid in the car, and put it on the seat next to them. Then you put it back on when you take them out of the car. It's pretty much impossible to not realize you only have one shoe on, no matter how distracted you are.
It's not that abnormal. Gerber spams you with the ads from the moment you take the kid home from the hospital. I think I might have one (can't actually remember) on my oldest. Wait, yes, I do, through work. Nothing more horrible than having to have a funeral for your kid and not being able to pay for it.
I starred you just for confusing the Huffington Post and Buzzfeed. Was I young and naive, or was the Huffington Post once much better than it is now?
I sell insurance, and yes, we try to get everyone to take out a policy on thier baby as soon as possible. We have several clients who had policies as babies with a thing called a "guaranteed insurability option" on it, and for some of them who developed serious health conditions later on in their lives, that is the…
My mom took a life insurance policy out on me when I was born. So did my husband's mother. We both now have very valuable life insurance policies that pay out dividends. It is a wise investment to make on behalf of your children and many upper-middle class and wealthier families do it. It's quite common.
I've always been concerned about my kiddo being left in a hot car. My worries only increased after this whole shit show. Solution for us: we've implemented a policy of texting either a photo of the kiddo at daycare or of the empty backseat. This text must come by 10am from fiancé or 9:30am by me (work schedules…
I'll be honest, I live in Massachusetts and there's a PP in my town that doesn't even offer abortions and there is a guy who stands across the street holding up a sign protesting them so whenever I see him I honk and flip him the bird. I know it's immature but those people infuriate me.
The Times piece is really worth reading. There are some legit reasons the vaccines have gotten so expensive. What seems questionable is how the costs never seem to drop, even after they've presumably covered their development outlay.
Jonas Salk is spinning in his grave. He developed his polio vaccine for the good of humanity and never wanted to collect profits from it. Vaccines should be readily available to all children and adults who need them. This is one of the many reasons why the profit motive in health care is just plain awful.
I'm curious to know — do you have your own small practice, or are you part of a larger group? It sounds like the hardest hit are the really small practices (I always think of my bow-tie wearing childhood pediatrician), which seem harder to maintain these days, anyway. Reading the Times piece I couldn't help but wonder…
This has always angered me. Once they recoup the research and development costs they still overcharge for them. We seriously need to have financial reform to stop big pharma from bribing our govt.
Amen to this. Every woman who interviews for a job is painfully aware of her gender and the elaborate dance interviewers do to assess your childbearing tendencies, whether or not you are married, etc. They don't ask men that shit at all!! Because the "little woman" at home will take care of the kiddos, naturally. This…
Right. Whether a woman can "have it all" depends on what you think "having it all" means. Indra Nooyi's daughter might be hurt now about her mother not being able to go to coffee hour at school, but I'd like to think that when she's older, she'll realize how badass it was that her mom was the CEO of a Fortune 500…
I appreciate Jezebel publishing something related to sex trafficking, especially in light of all the discussion about Belle Knox and sex work. Between all the essays written by privileged women who have chosen to work in the sex trade, there are countless voiceless children, women, and men who are forced into sex…
