"We feel bad that she had to LASH OUT this way."
"What is up with an industry that is supposedly so welcoming to disenfranchised men yet can't seem to offer the same sanctuary for women?" — YES!
Because "lonely geek wank-room" just doesn't have the same ring to it.
Shared this with a friend from across the country who actually works at a comics shop and also happens to be black, and has many amusing stories about casual nerd racism. He had a pretty good comment I'm going to paraphrase here.
Him: "Okay, so if my shop had a room that everyone called 'dead nigger storage', think…
WHY THE FUCK DO YOU CALL A ROOM IN YOUR COMIC BOOK STORE A "RAPE ROOM?
Exactly! I'm not saying calling a sketchy room the "rape room" is a totally awesome and hilarious thing to do, but the real issue is how they reacted when she asked them to stop. Another major issue is the implicit misogyny when a bunch of men fire a woman because they think she's overreacting to a rape joke.
great, can't shop there anymore.
Those who have know us for years must realize that we do not condone this behavior.
Just a joke... a 'joke' isn't something you say because it's rebellious/weird/quirky to you. A joke is funny. A joke is something that makes you and other people laugh. A joke's entire purpose is to creature humor.
To everyone saying it is just a joke: That's the point.
Worst name for a room ever.
Addendum:
"she wouldn't work" = she can't take a rape joke.
I'm not even going to be bothered trying to find the appropriate GIF, I'm so annoyed:
It's a skull with tampons for crossbones.
I honestly didn't get the big hullabaloo about MLP until I watched the Bronies documentary (and cried like a little baby). I'm a person with ASD, married to a person with ASD, who has two boys with ASD. I also work professionally with kids on the spectrum. To see these guys- many of whom were on the autism spectrum…
Absolutely. It's condescending to both men and women.
There's an element of sexism to all the derision for Bronies. Not only are they fans of a kid's show, they're fans of a kid's show meant for girls. Fans of, I dunno, Adventure Time or ThunderCats don't get nearly as much scorn. Can't help but think it's because they're lowering themselves to like something feminine.
You can expense the ears.
Roughly 35% of attendees are female (girl MLP fans have also adopted the "brony" moniker)
