Make it a period piece. Should’ve done that years ago

The entire country saw a bunch of asshat losers try to overthrow the government and 4 years later large swaths either deny that happened or openly say it was a great thing.

There are plenty of places in the U.S. where saying orange man bad is indeed a courageous act (I suspect you may live in one), but I’d agree that it wouldn’t be courageous for Alex Garland to say it. It also wouldn’t be courageous for him to say water is wet, but I’d still find it strange if he refused to acknowledge

The most unbelievable aspect to me is the idea a significant number of American minds can be changed by the power of the press and honest reporting. I think we’ve burned that bridge.

I think it’s interesting to contemplate whether Garland’s British-ness is an important consideration, here. Britain has been remarkably resistant to fully committing to any ideology or government type. They clipped the monarchy’s nuts, but not completely, and didn’t get rid of it. They clipped the House of Lords’

Well you’ll find both sides doing it today.

American media loves to put out political satires that aren’t actually satirizing anything, they just have the tone of having  something important to say. See also: The Regime.

Alex Garland, “both siding” political violence and domestic terrorism

I mean...I’d absolutely let Nick Offerman be a three-term president.

Civil War is not about the military, or the President, or the origins of this particular conflict, because Garland knows that a 2024 audience is smart enough to draw their own conclusions on those fronts.

Yeah, the sentence “But Civil War is not about the military, or the President, or the origins of this particular conflict” made me think, “so we’ll just skip right over the racism, misogyny, bigotry and capitalist exploitation that’s fueling our current and historical rifts? OK then. I’m sure it’s super insightful
But

Being right-wing is either about trying to ‘win’ the love of your distant, neglectful conservative parents, or it’s about becoming the abuser so that you feel safe from your abusive conversative parents. Or both.

I absolutely love this “Here’s What We Know” article.

I feel like, as crazy as it is, five-plus hours of movie is still not enough to fully flesh out a relatively short book.   So many scenes seem to happen in the span of 10 seconds

Hell I want someone to attempt God Emperor

At least, there won’t be any need to adapt God Emperor of Dune, given that five-hour-long rambling monologues from a giant worm with a human face who rules the universe already exists in the form of Donald Trump’s phone calls to Fox and Friends.

“The AV Club: We’re not even remotely pretending to try at this point.”

I’m going to watch it sitting on the bus on a Nokia flip phone, split into 68 mp4 files taken from a recording made in a Chinese theater with Cantonese subtitles - just like I watched Oppenheimer. Hollywood can’t tell me how to enjoy a film.

There’s not an ounce of insight in it! It reads like an 8th grader trying to fake a book report.

Sadly Pugh fares worst out of this quartet since her part is small and the character ends up being just a forgettable plot convenience.
