He didn’t really have to work with Republicans though; after the 2008 election, he had an overwhelming popular mandate to charge the last administration with malfeasance wrt Iraq, to charge the perpetrators of the banking crisis, to make the executive more transparent, and close Guantanamo. He just didn’t do it.
