Iowa has a fantastic gravel road network. Almost the entire state is covered in a 1-mile square grid of gravel roads. They did it this way (instead of having many blacktopped backroads like other states) because farm equipment is too damaging on paved surfaces and the upkeep cost would be ridiculously high.
