Lee/Jackson/King day in VA almost made me spontaneously combust when I first heard about it as a freshman at a VA college. I thought it was a sick joke.
They could always just give you Black Friday and not force you to acknowledge that whatever nameless thing is being celebrated used to be celebrated on January 19th.
It well and truly sucked. I could only take small comfort in that my presence as a black woman sipping their punch and nibbling their nasty cookies was secretly upsetting to most (if not all) of them and would have surely enraged their predecessors.
