Haven't read all the answers - I can't be bothered - the reason is simple. A launch control revs the engine up to ideal RPM to Torque Ratio before setting off.
When you roll around barely at Engine idle with 5 mph it takes much longer to spool up those turbos and get a nice start. So ... Duh!
