The lifeblood of internet commentary is angry arguments. Cosby and Weinstein didn’t generate the same level of vitriol, I think, because condemning them didn’t generate a lot of engagement. It’s not like a bunch of people suddenly feel compelled to respond if you tell them Bill Cosby sucks.

He’ll probably just go hang out on his weird Pirates inspired yacht in the Bahamas for a few years until this is mostly forgotten.

there’s a reason the top voted comment is an unrelated Sonic milkshake. This verdict is for some reason rattling the losers who normally virtue signal in these comment sections. They need to joke about something else because this pokes holes in everything they usually comment on articles concerning abuse.

To be fair, he is a man pushing 60 whos put a lot of milage on his face in the last 5 years.   Probably partially because of all the wine.  He was never gonna play Jack Sparrow again unless it was as a old man Jack mentor role.  He will probably sink back into old man character actor roles but I suspect not a lot of

“Oh wait that’s right, we all know that he raped her with a bottle and all sorts of other unseemly shit,”

We all know that?

What makes you think his career is over? What other odious people have never worked again?

Have you ever met someone with power? Like 9 times out of 10 they’re just a bratty child. That’s also a running theme with the bad guys in Star Wars.

Likeability is a hell of a loaded term, that betrays a person’s subconscious prejudices. Often, likeability amounts to conforming to the norms of the dominant culture. And why the hell should an Inquisitor have to be likeable?

a shit ton of money? ya know, like all jobs

“we have only one thing to say: we resist”

It’s interesting that, in a story talking about all the obvious racism she is encountering, your response is “Here are the not-racist reasons I don’t like her”

I think you protest too hard buddy.

So, is Facebook going to do something about this, already?

So, will Facebook ban users who message racist crap to strangers for life, or until they pass a community college sociology course?

Anyone commenting with a review of the performance, character, or show, positive or negative, is completely missing the point, and pushes forward the dangerous idea that treating actors as human beings deserving of respect, free from bigotry is somehow conditional. It is not. There is absolutely no excuse for the kind

“Older angrier man.”

There’s a lot of American films that casually feature like 50 year old dudes with 30 year old wives. I don’t think it’s a matter of not enough roles being written I think it’s literally that studios don’t want to pair women over 45 with men over 45 which is.... very problematic.

This is a case where the US is so bad that you can be better and yet still not very good at all.

I agree. I don’t watch a wide variety of panel shows, but the ones I watch seem to be much more diverse than the American TV I watch. QI and Taskmaster both do a good job finding guests and contestants from a wide range of ethnicities, ages, orientations, abilities, physical attractiveness, etc.
