Anytime you send control signals to a robot, there is some margin of error that occurs. As you send more and more control signals, those errors escalate. Within just a few moves, you have no idea where the robot is without new sensor readings.
I find nothing wrong with any of those ads, and something highly elitist and disturbing about Gizmodo's take on them.
