The normal desktop paradigm gives me the ability to quickly and easily find and switch to the application I want to be working in while my others do work in the background... but the tabbed paradigm is great when you have multiple instances of the same application open. IE, 15 web pages.

Ummmmm... my usage of tabbed web browsers has nothing to do with wanting a modal web browser... I can simply open a new tab faster than a new window, and it makes it faster to find a specific browser window.
