I dunno, did Benetton have billions of euros coming out of their ears from selling something 2/3 the size of a soda for 5x the price? Red Bull's involvement goes pretty far back to Sauber in the 90s or earlier and I think it was a dream of Dietrich Mateschitz to own a team.
While they were winners in the former AMA they really sucked in World Superbikes. That can't help, not only finishing very, very badly but sinking the money in to run 2 bikes all over the world.
