3% on a retrofit and 12% on a clean sheet design. 3% is about equivalent to the improvement you see from winglets that are flying around now and 12% is about the improvement they’re getting from new engines like the ones going on the 737 MAX and 319neo.
It would make clean sheet designs lighter by enabling load alleviation across the wing. By doing this you can make the entire wing lighter because it doesn't have support such high loads in certain circumstances.
