This is kind of confusing, Autoexpress is a UK site, right? The UK Passat already gets 74.3mpg (UK gal) and the article says the new engine COULD be approaching 60mpg, so probably in the 50's. So in that context it's going to be a boost in power for a reduction in mpgs.
