It’s a paradox, because by the time you have the money to travel in comfort, you don’t have the time. On the other hand, traveling when you can afford to not worry about the cost of day to day stuff is soooo much nicer.
The ticket machines did catch me by surprise once or twice, but they were easy enough to figure out, I thought - and actually much easier if you don’t speak the language.

My last vacation sold me on trains - went to Japan, and had the amazing experience of being able to just go to the station and hop on a train and go. It was comfortable, had amazing views, and when you take out the 2+hour inconvenience that airports add, I spent maybe the same amount of time with a lot less hassle …
