Exactly, I mean, isn’t one of the “conservative feminists’” key things to “endorse/celebrate/something/ motherhood”? Like, what says “celebrating motherhood” more clearly than paid maternity leave?

The way I see it it’s not about guilt or stupidity, it’s just that as a woman approaching middle age, I’ve come to see the patriarchal structures and male entitlement in our culture so clearly in recent years, and because of this, it’s easy to see and understand that there are parallel oppressive structures re: race.
They sure have helped me.
I’m a non-american white woman and I feel exactly the same as Susie. Thank you so much for your articles, Mr. Harriot (and other writers here too). My eyes have opened to structural oppression in ways I’ve never understood before.
Ok he made Jim up to mock France, but still, that seems somewhat unnecessary.
Another non-american here. Your analysis of the situation sounds really accurate. It’s just hard for an outsider to understand how this can happen in a country where people are so proud of, say, free speech and seem to go berserk if the state/federal government would try to limit free speech or other personal…
Wow! This reminds me of something that happened here some time ago (sorry, this is highly irrelevant). A small-time celebrity had secretly videotaped having sex with women. When he got caught, he explained that he did it because his friend “Peter” had been wrongly accused of rape, and consequently killed himself, so…
Unfortunately, it’s highly likely that abuse happens inside the Russian sports too, on top of the doping use.
This. I’ve never been girly girl but I’ve never had anything against girly girls and I’ve always felt comfortable among women.
It’s tough to read about a mass shooting (again and again), but it’s pretty clear that media has to/will report about it and also pretty inevitable that people post about it in social media.
Yup. Also, it’s sort of an unspoken default that *everyone* is opposed to domestic violence (I mean, duh). If you have to publically declare that that kind of suggests that you’re maybe not that opposed to it after all. Like, if someone would say “I’m totally opposed to pedophilia and everyone knows that!!” it just…
Bien sur, but I’m from Finland actually :D. You’re very welcome here, but honestly, I highly recommend Paris over Helsinki...(well, that’s probably a no-brainer to most people).
What they said. Europeans (at least me and people I know) are feeling a lot of sympathy for americans, and I think that if you travel to Europe for fun, most people assume you probably did not vote for *him*.
Isn’t the point though that the character is supposed to be ethnically Asian, i.e. having physical features typical for people of Arab, South East Asian, or Japanese descent? And that Hollywood likes to show people with Caucasian appearance?
Thank you! And thanks for pulling me out of the greys :)
(Disclaimer: your comment prompted a trail of thought that I just had to get out of my system. My comment is not criticism of your comment, your comment about whether one can like films by people who did something bad just activated something I’ve been thinking about a lot.)
Nobody knows what was in her mind except herself. However, saying that Weinstein was the one responsible is not a statement about her state of mind; it’s simply a matter of fact statement about te reality. Had Weinstein not raped McGowan, Messick would not have killed herself (at least not triggered by the events that…
I’m just loving each and every message in this thread with all my heart. I was forced to read some misogynist shit today and to unfriend someone in fb for being a misogynist shit. You’re all amazing and saved my day. Thank you.
Didn’t he also mock John McCain for “getting caught” (as POW)? He literally has zero shame. It’s almost intriguing.
All for this suggestion and not to derail but I simply have to point out here that Cornell is the institution that produced the infamous (well, in psychology) ESP studies by Daryl Bem; thus, “finer place of learning” may be a bit of a stretch...
