At some point they’re going to have to raise the price of streaming subscriptions to show a profit. So the result will be paying $30-40 each for multiple services, and it’ll basically be a wash compared to visiting the theaters a few times per month.

Problem is that’s a good recipe for killing those genres altogether because guess what? Streaming’s not that good a profit generator either! That’s what the studios all found out, the revenue from streaming is weird and unreliable. If Netflix makes a comedy, maybe that contributes to their total subscriptions, maybe

That doesn’t make any sense. There was no time in history where you could spontaneously show up and expect to have the best seats. You would have to show up 30 minutes to an hour before and stand around in line. On opening weekend, you would have to show up even earlier.

I like going to the movies, so, selfishly, I hope theaters survive. But I think audiences have made pretty clear that there are really only a handful of movies per year that they’re willing to pay for a full theatrical experience to see. And I don’t think that makes them assholes or philistines.

Yeah, it wasn’t bad, just not what I expected from the reviews. (the logsplitter scene was fucking fantastic, though)

Since many of the posters here (me included) are often criticizing the writing on the site, it’s worth saying -- this review is very well written.

You think that’s wild? In the novel, Pussy Galore’s name is Kitty Galore. They made it WORSE for the movie.

Disbelief. “That has to mean something else, right??”

I love Community but I am starting to get some serious AD S4/S5 vibes from this project. Like, people want it but it’s taking time to put together, they just can’t seem to make it work, and then years later we’ll get something that is subpar. I hope I am wrong and would love to re-visit Greendale, but every passing

at this point do people really care? Feels like its equivalent to hassling George R.R. about finishing the next GoT novel.  move on, people!

He’s earned it. He’s got more Oscars than the rest of the cast combined.

He's a real dean-va!

As someone who was a huge fan of the first two, I enjoyed this film much more than the reviewer.

Halloween had as flimsy a story as any horror film ever has --it was his film-making and style that made that film what it is.  Anytime Carpenter has tried to get into storytelling it’s more of a mess than not.

She’s at the Emmys. They should know how to pronounce the name of a presenter ffs. Yes, so fragile that she laughed about it. Super dick move to joke about a dumb thing that very much happened just a second ago.

I think her comments on Knocked Up have been misrepresented for a long time. Yes, she said it “was a little sexist”. I think “little” is relevant there. She followed that up by saying that the women characters were “shrews, humorless and uptight”. And she’s fucking RIGHT. I like that movie a lot but it is undeniable

Dakota Johnson is making fun of a movie that’s almost universally panned and made fun of relentlessly on the internet. She’s showing she gets the joke and there’s not a lot of danger of pissing anyone off.

i saw her in this new movie that tig notaro directed and both of their weirdo energies really worked together. i wouldn’t say i have a strong opinion on her either way, but it’s always interesting which actresses are just simply not liked by people on the internet.

I think You’re Next works better if you’re a fan of the genre generally. It’s kind of a home invasion horror, kind of a slasher, but the Final Girl isn’t magically competent. For fans of the genre the Final Girl formula can get a little tired so seeing Vinson as so competent and then giving her an actual backstory for

It didn’t strike me as terribly bizarre. X was about expression vs repression and that was just another element of it.
