That is pretty much a leaf or bolt. But those aren’t sexy and profitable. Tons of unnecessary tech is sexy and profitable.

EVs are cool and neat and great, etc, etc, etc, but constantly-connected consumer electronics put unprecedented control over your property in the hands of the company that sold it to you (or, as they’ll likely claim, licenced to you).

I refuse to be a luddite, but I also just hate to see internal combustion thrown out. Anyone who claims that EVs are more eco-friendly than a modern ICE is fooling themselves.

The lack of infrastructure plus the effect of cold weather on EVs are major detractors. Motor Trend just posted something about their experiences which confirms a lot of what my friends with EV have said:

$7.25 is not too far from $11.60. The point is the electricity price has gone up quite a bit- more than doubled in the last 10 years. So EV’s are not the slam dunk they used to be. For example a Prius with 55mpg would cost roughly the same over that 100 mile distance as your Bolt.

We should go back to living like it is 1723, I guess. Oh wait, that would mean deforesting the world to stay warm too.

They had largely overcome their old reputation, but then the whole easy to steal thing happened, and their reputation is probably shot again.
