i stand corrected.  i don’t watch soccer b/c i find it terrifically boring.  the year i played it in high school i thought it was boring.  when i was actually playing the game i thought it was boring.  kent brockman’s calling sums up my interest entirely.  “holds it...holds it...holds it...”

This is a great example of why we shouldn’t idolize celebrities, considering their entire personas are 100% fabricated to maximize popularity.  They are selling a product, themselves, and like any other product, the advertisements are often misleading.

When I was a kid, I did expect that I would have kids, but that was entirely modeling the world I saw around me. It wasn’t until I got older and was able to think about what I actually wanted (partly because I realized I could think about what I wanted around that age) that I was like, you know, I don’t want that.

I’m never one to shy away from criticism of Biden, and am not particularly generous with praise (as one should never be for powerful people), but this is straight up great. Lean into that shit. Roe is plenty more popular than Biden is, make this upcoming election ALL ABOUT it.  Put conservatives on the defensive all

Yeah so here’s the thing, Kylie: You are not a political strategist. There is absolutely a reason he’s not saying the word.

If we on the left don’t start understanding the Realpolitik involved in getting what we want, we’re doomed.  It’s time to wise up.

I’ve never wanted children. I knew that when I was a kid, myself. It always seemed like such a lot of work. It’s hard enough getting my sh*t together to get out the door and to work on time, if I had to make sure another person or two also had their sh*t together , I’d lose my damn mind.

I realized how I didn’t want kids in college, and while I had a couple times I questioned it (always for the sake of a relationship - dumb me), I’ve become more and more secure in the belief that I made the right choice. Like Clarkson, I have some nieces I adore, and I am so grateful I get to be their aunt, but hell

It’s fucking sad that in the futuristic year of 2023, it’s still headline-worthy for a woman to say she doesn’t want kids.

If you meet someone who still thinks in 2023 that “cancel culture isn’t real”, run and don’t look back.

Cancel culture isn’t real, and it’s good that it happens.”

thanks for writing this

I’m getting pretty tired of folks who pretend like cancel culture doesn’t exist; it’s gotten to the point where I don’t even know what they’re trying to say to begin with...

like, does cancel culture always result in long-term cancellation? nope (but no one ever said it did)! but there are still

Exactly.

This was a very thoughtful deconstruction. On point. I think it was Blake Lively with her Antebellum thing that lasted a day.

That would be Ellie Kemper as target of Twitter wrath.

It was a shitty date for sure. If that’s the criteria I could change the careers of half the men I went out with in my 20s.

We’re seeing this weird fork in what people are referring to when they use the phrase “cancel culture.”

Aziz Ansari. He had a hit show at the time and now he’s back to doing occasional stand up. His career never really recovered.

Yeah. I don’t get why people pretend it doesn’t exist. They chose to selectively frame it around celebrities who lose one or two contracts and then just keep working so they can disingenuously pretend it’s not real. That doesn’t make any sense since there are tons of examples of regular people who have been mobbed

So cancel culture is not real according to Jezebel?

Great interview.
