I had a college professor who loathed Andrew Lloyd Webber. I can still hear him on 30 minute diatribe about how CATS was the downfall of modern theater and he’d rather watch a dog licking it’s butt (or something equally amusing). I happen to like some of his stuff, but it seems kind of lightweight like a Rom Com.

Has she ever claimed not to be? She’s Italian and Jewish: The weirder thing would be if she were super-pale.

Wow. Fascinating. I think you’re right, we should only focus on the unhoused who are good and not the filthy degenerates in those “other” camps. Don’t lump all homeless together? Done, honey! I will make sure to shit on the bad ones and only help the good ones. So glad you are here to guide me!

I’m not saying Biden doesn’t have problems but he could at least try. He just seems to do nothing when he could do something and then afterwards does a half-arsed measure to try and cut some of the public criticism after the horse has bolted.

She beat him in a poll by 2 points, (hardly decisive), and those results say nothing about the absolute destruction divided Dems are going to face in 2024.

I think they aren’t actually that popular, but its much much easier to raise capital with a known name and script. Revivals pass so many of the steps to Broadway (book, theater booking, capital raising, getting major creatives involved) so much easier that they end up as a higher proportion than they should be.

I shudder to think what Trump could get away with with the current SC backing him.

22 yo and 26 yo family members each went separately to NYC in the last two months and saw Little Shop of Horrors AND Phantom. So there must still be some interest in those traditional shows even amongst the younger set.

I was under the impression that Broadway was dominated by revivals as revivals are seen as more of a guarantee for producers.  Maybe not “dominated” but taking a disproportionate amount of theater time.

The current revival of The Music Man starring Hugh Jackman made over $3 million last week. The hottest ticket in town this spring was to the two week revival of Into the Woods at City Center that was so well received it opened last night for an eight week Broadway run to some of the most glowing reviews I’ve ever read

I used to think the same until I discovered some friends were “Broadway People” and actually did get excited about revivals of old shows. Plus they want everything done exactly the way it was back then, no reinventing or anything, everything new sucks and is cringe. It’s their Star Wars.

Hugh Jackman in the Music Man... looking forward to that one in August. [Wife’s birthday present...she’s a huge Jackman fan and I still enjoy musical theater. We’re a weird dynamic!]

How are you going to blame Biden for Clarence Thomas when he didn’t even fucking vote to confirm him? This site is a false flag I swear.

It has to be the right show, and “Funny Girl” is not the right show.

Funny Girl is inextricably linked to Barbara. It’s one of those shows that you just can’t put on again on Broadway successfully because Barbara was the secret sauce that gave it its popularity. No one is interested in seeing another take on it.

The funny thing is he’s unpopular for things that would have happened under any conceivable scenario regardless of who the President was, and that includes Trump.

When a man is ambitious that’s a good trait, when a woman is ambitious she’s a bitch.

The one we have to thank (BLAME) for Kim Kardashian's rise to pop culture prominence...

At the risk of angering India.Arie, who?

Yes, both the boys and even Peacemaker have killed Superhero shows this year way more than Marvel. I’m so sad at how shitty Thor 4 was. It was awful, Tessa was a nothing character in this one other than a side kick smiling all the fucking time. Bale was a nothing villian. Just awful.

It also deals with the idea that superheroes by their very nature are, at best(!), nigh invulnerable vigilantes much more effectively.
