There’s a difference between this getting you ahead, and NOT doing this getting you reprimanded, penalized, or fired.

Absolutely, but that’s true (at least if your management is solid) no matter where you start. Even if you’re a cashier at Whole Foods, showing up to work when your co-workers call out is a good way to get promoted.

As a long time union member: the story here is that you were unnecessary. Most on the floor management decisions can be made by senior labor employees. The best boss I ever had when I was in the Teamsters was a guy who would say “what’s the best way to do this?” To a gaggle of old hands and let experience play out

It sounds like you had a bad personal experience. This is not indicative of what “unions” are. They are many things, but mostly they are what the employees and employers make of them.

We have a workrule - DEMANDED BY MANAGEMENT - That requires any box over 25 lbs be lifted by a designated laborer with:

THIS is a reasonable argument. About fucking time.

We have that work rule in place at two locations.

If he was brought back after mediation, that means the company jumped the gun and fucked up.

*insert anecdotal union corruption story here with zero context or anything resembling factual framing.

I’ve been part of a Union negotiating team for three contract cycles, and a dues-paying member for 15 years.

Aren’t you just a wonderful little tool bag.

On the flip side if you didn’t have that union they would make $15 an hour and get 2 weeks off with shitty benefits and they get to turn all the boxes they need. I know the work-pace is slowed, but safety is up and so is pay.

But you’d put a Trabant in your driveway in a heartbeat if you could, wouldn’t you?

Here’s it in optical from a ground based telescope courtesy of a lecture by Michael Richmond. The deep red shows these are quite dense clouds (at least compared to space) and the light from stars behind them are being filtered similar to a giant several light year long sunset.

In a way this is still a bit deceptive as

Squagels, what are they? Now I know they are United States of America
Thank you so very much Google image search...

For the sake of your loved ones and all the ones around you on a daily basis? Yes.

Most of them have live GPS reporting. Shit has Black Mirror written all over it.

#3 was fulfilled quite a while ago. Amazingly, I did it without spying on my children, who would have thought it was even possible?!

Jesus christ, parents.

Or you could actually read the study in question (or just the post you commented on) and see that these apps don’t help achieve their intentions, rather than fall back on “teen suffering = good parenting” Puritan logic.
