In all seriousness, the race was rigged before Sanders entered. It was part of the reason he did enter, to draw attention to the corruption in the system. I don’t think he knew he would do as well as he did.

He IS too old. The Democratic old guard needs to let in more young blood. Schumer is 67, Pelosi is 77, so is Biden. Compare that with the Republicans: Ryan is 48, Pence is 58. Yes, Trump is an old guy, but the Republicans have a young guard in charge, why don’t younger Democrats step up?
