M4M? I hear you, Kev.

I only watched the first 3 episodes, but two of them had scenes where a horse needed to be put down on the spot and the man who happened to be there and got it done was John Dutton. John Dutton does what needs to be done. John Dutton acts while the rest of you just watch. John Dutton is the sheepdog, AND the shepherd.

I bet Dennis Quaid is available to step in and most viewers wouldn’t notice.

I’ve been using that shorthand for Colin Farrell for years. Total character actor. Fortunately, his looks are fading.

i thought he was an abysmal choice for fletch but he really surprised me.

But that’s because it wouldn’t have fit those three guys, who weren’t taking character actor roles - they were doing big leading man dramatic gigs in the prime of their careers. The analogue would only work if Cary Grant had spent the 60s appearing in Smothers Brothers sketches and doing Robert Downey Snr movies.

There’s a brilliant bit in the interactive UKS where Kimmy is talking to the Reverend in prison and, for reasons I can’t remember, he starts mocking New Yorkers’ snobbery over non-NYC bagels. I think I need to have another explore of that.

I disagree - I think he’s hilarious and should focus on comedy. Hell, he even manages to make a kidnapper-rapist funny in Kimmy Schmidt.

I don’t think he’s particularly funny on his own but he really excels at playing straight man to funnier people.  Which is how he works so well in those comedy shows imo

They actually starred together in A Young Doctor’s Notebook, with Jon playing the older version of Daniel’s character.

He’s good friends with a ton of great comedians/improvisors/comedic actors. He’s always awesome on Comedy Bang! Bang!. Some guests just don’t know how to interact with the improvisors — Bill Hader is one that surprisingly did NOT do well on the podcast — but Hamm gets it. It’s always a treat when the first guest

I can’t say I find JH to be especially funny, but he keeps popping up in comedies that I love (Children’s Hospital, Travel Man, Toast of London, Curb, etc.) so I’d say he has good taste at least.

I’ve heard the phrase “Character actor stuck in a leading man’s body” a few times, usually for people like Colin Farrel, but Jon Hamm has always hit me as a great example. He wants nothing more than to be in 5-10 weird and interesting projects a year but his face is made for being the lead actor in bland

A development group turned a defunct multiplex in my area into a pickleball facility recently, so you aren’t far off on the options that are out there.

Speaking from a long time Austin-based customer’s perspective, Alamo was a magical place without peer when we moved here 11 years ago, but since then has been gradually going downhill, accelerated, unfortunately, by COVID and Tim League being forced to sell out to private equity. My expectations are low, but hopefully

On moving to the US and living in Brooklyn for a year, Alamo Drafthouse was a brilliant surprise find for me, and I loved going there.  It was a major bummer to find out afterwards about the way they treated staff.

Now playing

The last two films I watched in the theater, both at the Alamo Drafthouse, were Avengers: Endgame and Poor Things. With COVID, COVID still being a concern, and me not having much money to spend lately, I just haven’t been inclined to go out, even if I did want to see Barbie, Top Gun Maverick, and whatever worthwhile

I had to take a second and make sure I didn't misread the theater chain they were talking about when I read that. It's such a throwaway line in the grand scheme of things, but I'm sitting here thinking "Wait, how could someone who knows anything about the Alamo say *that*?"

I’m not really worried about Sony buying Alamo from an anti-trust point of view. They only have 36 theaters so it’s not Sony can wield their might and not show their movies elsewhere or only show Sony movies at their theater. If Disney bought AMC, that would be a bigger anti-trust problem since AMC is a much bigger
