When starting on any anime no one has to watch the entire series.  One has only to watch a handful of episodes to see if it’s something that they’d be into or not.

Its pretty clear that the list of amazing anime is from stuff he saw when he was in his teens/when they started going mainstream via toonami/adult swim. If you think about his list that way, when he was in the target demo, makes perfect sense.
