I’ve led a pretty exemplary life and even went through the pressure of law school and taking the NY bar, but I often feel tempted to rage-beat rapists. So if I assault Shrivastava in a totally heinous way that would cause him much mental suffering I can totally just spend 45 weekends in jail, right? 

Calling an unconscious woman “an opportunity” is one of the most dehumanizing things I’ve ever read. 

Leading a decent enough life before doing something terrible doesnt absolve you of that terrible deed. Taking responsibility for your crime and trying to understand what lead you to do it matters. You dont get that by saying you deserve leniency because you were good in school

Plus, the use of the word “temptation” in the first place is implying that she somehow was alluring this poor upstanding boy into doing something oh-so-naughty, that she participated in her own rape.

Also is a pretty clear indicator that he shouldn’t become a doctor. 

Maybe, and just hear me out here, you can be in school with good grades, and yet at the same time, be a dangerous, piece of shit sexual predator who deserves no leniency.
