“You’re listening to WITE.”
Most of the reason those books are banned is because they are, in fact, loud and often searing critiques of ignorance and cruelty, especially unexamined ignorance and cruelty that is approved of on a cultural level.
In other words, Dave Chappelle is not a banned book when he is being yelled at: he is after all…
“If I don’t like a batch of jokes, I just don’t laugh and wait for the next batch,”
you’re not a very good librarian if you don’t understand how access to misinformation is really dangerous. especially with public fucking libraries.
As a librarian in this day and age I’m shocked that you’ve managed to find the exact wrong metaphor to use.
You’re right. We just don’t understand comedy.... what’s your name....
What if they repeatedly cross the same line like a dozen times, each to the same dull effect?
He crossed it a few specials ago. It’s not funny if you have to keep explaining the “joke” years after the fact.
We have the freedom to choose what we read and watch, but we also have the ability to speak out against hate and oppression. People have no obligation to be silent about hate speech. Netflix has no obligation to air hate speech. Nobody has to suffer bigotry in silence.

Stealth Hitler joke here?
You apologists got to this post late
If a comedian never crosses the line, I’m not sure I can respect them.
“You can’t punch down if you don’t believe you’re above them, if you respect them as equals.”
Yeah, it is a damn shame that this isn’t his first, or even second round of transphobic comedy that netflix is A-Ok with him putting out. His previous netflix specials also had lengthy segments of anti-trans “jokes” which even though netflix has a whole “LGBTQ” section in its genre list, it didn’t prevent them from…
Doubling down is sadly where the money’s at in this day and age. Yeah you drum up a lot of negative press but even that’ll draw a lot of eyes on you and therefore money.
jebus, he doubled down on it? Fuckin A he can talk about literally anything he wants to and get paid millions of dollars and THIS is what he’s passionate about? The earlier transphobic stuff really soured me on that special and made me start to reconsider him. Then I watched 8:46 and it wasn’t amazing, but more than…
