I’m getting back on a bike this summer. 500F is the top of my list, for sure. My commuting is all 80-90mph freeway, though, with strong desert wind. I’ll definitely be throwing on a touring screen!
Don’t get me wrong, the wind protection on the R is top notch. But I don’t want to be leaned over like that all the time, and I don’t like clip-on bars — I like my bars wide and flat.
I got to test drive the CBR300R, CB500F, CBR500R, CB500F, and CB500X.
For commuting, go with the F or the X. More upright = better view over cars and more control. While I would normally tell new riders to go for the smaller 300, the 500 is actually completely predictable, and totally suited for new riders. I think…
