Since they say they modified the floorpan AND the FIREWALL I suspect they widened the cab - also helped fit that massive dash without having to “section” it

They WIDENED the cab 4 inches to fit the chassis was my take on it. The clue was the word “firewall” in the description. Also, the F150 dash definitely would not fit in the old cab without sectioning it.
My last (previous) pickup was my ‘57 Fargo Custom Express - a possible 1 of 1 “unicorn” with a 246 inch flatty, Heavy front axle, short narrow box with sidemount and wrap-around rear window. I added AC with an underdash unit from a ‘67 Plymnouth station wagon and a seat out of a ‘76 Dart sport. I drove it to the Tulsa…
I don’t think I EVER made 30% on parts -and today the difference from suggested retail to “jobber” or shop price is often less than 15%
Timing belt on a Pontiac Firenza (Vauxhall/Viva SL2300) on the side of the road between Sydney and Halifax Nova Scotia - thankfully the Sydney dealer had the part hanging on a nail with no idea what it fit and I found a 3 inch piece of the belt with the part number - and a friend of a friend had the day off and her…
Replacing the seal would be fine in Cali - but in the rust belt the pitman shaft is likely so badly pitted and worn that the seal wouldn’t last 6 weeks - that’s why they make “repair sleeves” that you slide up onto the cleaned up pitman shaft with strong loc-tite to give a smooth seal surface - they are a little thicke…
Every 10 minute job turns into an hour. I wrenched professionally for almost 25 years, including 2 years teaching the trade and 10 years as a service manager at a medium sized dealership. There are good mechanics out there but they are not easy to hire. I had to fire a few who were NOT good. Over the last 30 years…
Here in Ontario Canada gas bounces around at 4 to 5 bucks a gallon - $1 to $1.60 a liter. Definitely “rust belt” but I’m driving a virtually rust free 1996 pickup as my daily driver. Inspection is on transfer or whenever the insurance company decides they want one by age. Insurance is not cheap - a lot of people are…
Define “shop”. If a guy with AMC experience could not get it to “run” it could be a problem. Within half an hour to an hour I can GUARANTEE I’d either have it making motor noises or know why not. (and have a darn good idea what kind of shape the engine is in). It might not sit there and idle - but it would “tell me…
Running it’s minimum 15 grand as noted elsewhere. “Minimal rust” looks accurate. It’s not totally rust free (the chassis is brown, not black, for instance) but it looks solid. The 360 is almost bulletproof and if that quadra-trac is functional that thing is GOLD. If not a swap to a simpler more common transfer case…
Try rebuilding the engine and trans for $4000. And he van WAS available with the Turbo 4 from the factory (at least in some years) I know a friend had one of the previous generation with the same T4 5 speed setup from the factory. 6K may be the full load on that van - but to someone wanting one?? NP
GM North America has NEVER built a successful small car. Lots of good ideas like the Vega Cosworth which was actually a pretty decent car if you could keep it together - but there was the rub. The Shove-it was a bit of a joke. I don’t think GM has ever been SERIOUS about building a small car - The Cadet might have…
With a good set of haks and a fiberglass cap - and posi - I have NO problem getting around in the winter up here in Ontario. I run 235/70 16 Hakkepillita R3s
I’ll take “junk” that goes 373000km and still going strong with only a cam synchronizer and alternator replacement over 25 years. Burns no oil - can still squeeze 31MPG (canadian gallon) out of it - averages about 20 with a lot of city driving and will easily break any speed limit in North America. (This is the pushrod…
You wouldn’t pry my ‘96 out of my hands for that price - for sure. It’s a 4 litre 5 speed posi longbox standard cab truck I paid $1500 for 8 years ago with 307000km on the clock. It came with boxliner and cap. 8 years later it has 372000km on it. The cab is still rust free. I replaced the box, (due to rusted wheel…
